A Stately Manor
Ardilaun House Hotel was built around 1840 as a townhouse in Galway for the Persse family. Many of the Persses were prominent members of Galway society – Burton, founder of the Galway Blazers Hunt, Atty Persse trained the legendary racehorse Tetrarch. Augusta Persse who later went on to become Lady Gregory and co-founder of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. The house was sited in an ideal location overlooking Galway bay.
The Ryan Connection
In 1922, Patrick Boland of the famous biscuit family bought this impressive property and then in 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Ryan purchased it from him. The conversion from stately Manor to Hotel commenced and on St Patrick’s Day in 1962 the Ardilaun House Hotel opened for business.
