ardilaun bubbly brunchThe wedding season 2014 has truly kicked off on Galway’s leafy Taylor’s Hill this week. Anyone who attended the Ardilaun’s Bubbly Brunch event last Sunday morning in The Ardilaun was spoiled for choice and received a hugely warm welcome from Maureen Walsh, ‘hostess with the mostest’, newly appointed wedding planner at The Ardilaun Hotel, Taylor’s Hill, Galway. Television personality Dáithí Ó Sé acted as MC and much to the amusement of guests shared his own humorous wedding day tales. A superb line-up of guest advisors on food, fitness, flowers and fashion shared their top tips with an attentive and eager audience made up of couples-to-be and their bridal parties, including Moms, Dads and bridesmaids. The Ardilaun is a great example of an Irish family business, where owner John Ryan and his wife Maggie were on hand at the event and one of their daughter’s Sophie was amongst the hard working waiting staff.

Maureen Walsh, newly appointed wedding planner at The Ardilaun shared valuable advice with couples-to-be, drawing on her 25 years of knowledge and professional experience facilitating so many couple’s big day at the hotel.  ‘When you’re planning your wedding, pay attention to getting your menu and band right, consider your guests and the types of atmosphere you want to create. The key elements people remember are the lovely meal and the music and craic they enjoyed,’ advised Maureen Walsh ‘above all relax, enjoy your day and trust the professionals.’ I’m delighted to admit that I’ve worked with whole families where each sibling in turn chose to return to The Ardilaun. They’ve told me that they know they will get the consistent personal attention and service for their wedding day.’

The brunch menu created by executive head chef David O’Donnell was really wow and the presentation of the bitesize portions was painstakingly perfect.  When interviewed about menu choices David recommended couples-to-be to always be mindful of any guests who might have food intolerances and allergies, and to be sure to let them chef know in plenty of time. ‘It’s easy to cater for various requests be they vegetarian, coeliac or lactose intolerant for example, just so long as we get advance notice, we’ll be prepared to cater for all tastes,’ commented chef David.

The fabulous Mandy Maher of Catwalk Model Agency gave her top tips on how to walk up the aisle in style; Throwing the bouquet was Dani Guder of The Art of Blooming who demonstrated some floral creations; Make-up artist to the stars Róisín Derrane gave great tips on the latest cosmetic secrets and techniques which will keep your make up perfect for the day. Galway’s wedding hair dresser extraordinaire Raymond Skelton along with hairstylist Deirdre made it all sound so simple to create gorgeous healthy coiffed locks.

Following the podium presentations from key experts, guests quickly took the opportunity to consult one-to-one with Maureen, the guest speakers and the Ardilaun team. In particular Mandy Maher of Catwalk Model Agency who emphasised to brides about wearing  their wedding shoes for up to two weeks beforehand and to practice walking them around the house, to ensure that they would be comfortable for the big day. Róisín Derrane advised to check that the foundation you will wear does not contain SPF as this can cause reflection and make your face appear pale when using flash photography.
