The Summer Season Launches at The Ardilaun Hotel and The Ardilaun Bistro

Summer has been welcomed with some exciting indoor and al fresco dining options at The Ardilaun Hotel.

The Ardilaun Bistro has launched a new summer menu introducing new dishes and featuring new suppliers such as Corleggy Cheese Belturbet Cavan, Sliabh Aughty Honey Loughrea, Nori Bake Connemara Food Ventures, Galway Goat Farm Dunmore, Beechlawn Organic Farm Ballinasloe and Achill Oysters and Cuinneog Dairy Mayo to complement an already extensive list of artisan food producers we have. The exciting new dishes which are deemed a ‘must try’ include Aran Baby Lemon Sole and Prawns – “on the bone” with sautéed samphire, spinach and prawns and a smoked cuinneog butter with capers and dill; Castlemine Farm Rare Breed Saddleback Port T-Bone Steak with butternut squash and thyme cream, cherry vine tomato confit, smoked black pudding crumbs, mustard seed and elderflower jus; plus many more enticing dishes.

Executive Head Chef David O’Donnell says, “We have introduced a number of new dishes that I feel represent summer in Galway, we have gone back to locality and created menus that are inspired by the local producers who have some amazing products which we complement by creating dishes that showcase their products and the hard work they put in to produce them”

The BBQ season at The Ardilaun is also launching this month with the barbecue options popular with corporate, private and family celebrations. Guests can enjoy alfresco dining in the hotel’s spacious surroundings. The unpredictable Irish summer weather is solved with an outdoor canopy and wall heaters. The carefully tended gardens at The Ardilaun are testament to Leo O’ Brien, the hotel’s passionate gardener of twenty six years. Leo has led the hotel to its success of winning Best Hotel Garden in the Tidy Towns Competition in the public and commercial buildings category for the past eleven years consecutively – every year since 2004 and for good reason.

Walk through the walled gardens and admire the work of the fourth class students of Scoil Rois, Taylors Hill. A new kitchen garden has been planted up featuring globe artichokes, radishes, courgettes, rocket and various types of lettuce including a large array of herbs and summer fruit like strawberries, raspberries, pears and rhubarb which are only some of the vegetables and fruit planted which play a role in the new menu at The Ardilaun Bistro.

Marketing Manager Maria Kelly said, ‘summer at The Ardilaun has always been a special time where families, clubs, societies, and other social groups come together to celebrate an occasion and we are delighted to have the beautiful surroundings and good food and service to offer the ideal venue and have happy memories of these events for years to come”.

A New Afternoon Tea Offering From The Ardilaun Just in Time For Mother’s Day

Tradition, hospitality and old world charm are synonymous with the luxurious Ardilaun Hotel, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy an indulgent Afternoon Tea. The new Afternoon Tea menu will not disappoint. Head Chef David O’Donnell has carefully chosen local artisan ingredients to produce an Afternoon Tea menu that combines classic delicacies in a contemporary style. A staple of Afternoon Tea, scones come with added flourish ‘Cuinneog Buttermilk Sultana and Chocolate Scones Served with Irish Mist and Berry Jam, Vanilla Mascarpone and Cuinneog Butter’. Finger sandwiches take a classic and elevate it to include local producers McGeoghs Air Dried Lamb, Cornamona Smoked Salmon, the humble cheese sarnie is transformed into ‘Chargrilled Cereal Bread with Beetroot and Pink Peppercorn Hummus, Aran Feta Cheese, Arugula Leaves, Caramelized Apple and Pumpkin Seed Oil”.

“My inspiration for the new Ardilaun Afternoon Tea comes from when I was younger, my grandmother and I used to bake together. At the time, I didn’t think it would evolve into my full time vocation, but after landing the role of working in the kitchen of a busy hotel in my early career and spending time on various sections, I couldn’t think of anything I wanted to do more. Over the years, I have learned that guests come to expect sweet menu items including Afternoon Tea to be more creative, so you can push the boat out a little more and design dishes that are daring and imaginative. Starters and main courses are generally eaten for sustenance, whereas sweet menu items are considered treats. So, I am of the mind-set that if our guests are treating themselves to a dessert or an Afternoon Tea experience, I want to treat them with something special, unusual and memorable alongside a selection of specialty teas and coffees”.

Sweet treats are indeed special and include Grand Marnier Cheese Cake Verrine with Nutty Biscuit Crumbs, Condensed Milk Crisp, and Galway Bay Brewery Chocolate Milk Stout Cake with Muscovado and Malt Cream plus many more.

The Ardilaun Afternoon Tea will be available every day from Saturday 14th March, just in time for Mothers Day and must be booked in advance. It is available between 3pm and 5:00pm and cost €35 for two, or for an extra indulgence add two glasses of Prosecco for €50.

Book early to avoid disappointment phone 091 521 433 or purchase online for the perfect Mother’s Day gift.
