One of the major social events getting Galway Race week under way is First Furlong at the Ardilaun Hotel held in aid of The National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI). Now in its third year it takes place on Tuesday 30th July and encapsulates all the fun of the Galway races with lunch, music and fashion. Master of Ceremonies this year is Image Magazine Editor, Melanie Morris.
Starting at 12 noon with a sparkling drinks reception those attending will enjoy a beautiful four course lunch with wine, followed by an afternoon of fabulous fashion with a Millinery Showcase hosted by Fashion Editor of Irish Independent and Weekend Magazine, Bairbre Power featuring some of Ireland’s leading Milliners: Suzie Mahony, Andrea Tighe, Caithriona King, Fiona Mangan and Mary White. Bairbre will also judge ‘First Past the Post Raciest Lady’ and ‘Bookies Favourite Gent’ sponsored by Anthony Ryans and Diamonds by Julia.
Tipsters will be on hand to give racing tips before everyone is shuttled to Ballybrit for an evening of racing. Tickets are on sale from the Ardilaun Hotel for the amazing price of just €65, that includes your shuttle to and from the races, along with entry into the race course. Alternatively treat yourself and stay overnight also with an all-inclusive package of €150 per person sharing. All monies raised on the day will go to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute based at NUI Galway.
