3 Day Itinerary in Galway

The Ardilaun Guide to a 3 Day itinerary

Welcome To Galway

Day One:

Start your adventure in the cultural heart of the city, The Latin Quarter. This area is defined by some of the city’s most historic landmarks and stretches from the Spanish Arch at Long Walk to O’Brien’s Bridge to St Nicholas’ Church and back. The Galway City Museum is located on the Spanish Arch, we recommend visiting if you get a chance during your day exploring.

The Latin Quarter is home to the city’s most popular bars, restaurants & retailers. Gaze in wonder at the amazing street performers or grab a pint of Guinness in Tigh Neachtain and just watch the world go by. If you’re looking to try some of the local foods, then you need to head to the weekend market situated just outside St. Nicholas’ medieval church. We suggest that you bring a bag to carry all your picnic supplies and take your delicious treats down to the Salthill promenade.

Day Two:

On your second day, set out to see one of the top sights in West of Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher. If you have a car it’s easy enough to drive to. Otherwise, there are plenty of tours that are often combined with a trip to see the Burren. We would recommend giving at least 1.5/2 hours to explore the cliffs as well as the museum in the visitor centre. You should also be sure to climb up to O’Brien’s Tower where you can see as far as the Aran Islands and mountains in the distance.

The cliffs are part of the UNESCO Global Geopark, also known as The Burren. The Burren National Park offers free guided walks along the trails. It’s a fantastic way to learn more about the flora, fauna and geology of the place.

Day Three:

Take a trip to Connemara National Park for some wonderful scenery and epic hiking spots. The Diamond Hill walk is a great option and the loop starts at the visitor centre. You can choose between the upper Diamond Hill trail and the lower Diamond Hill walk depending on how adventurous you’re feeling. Whichever route you choose you’ll get some wonderful views.

Next up, head to Kylemore Abbey & Victorian walled Gardens. During your visit, you can explore the six-acre walled garden, take a walk through the extensive woodland and visit the neo-Gothic church. Before you finish your trip, stop off in The Garden Tea House for a treat before heading back for the city.
